Feyenoord Crowned Dutch Eredivisie Champions After Victory Over Go Ahead Eagles

Rotterdam, Netherlands – April 25, 2024

Feyenoord have been crowned champions of the Dutch Eredivisie for the second time this century after a comfortable victory over Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.

The Rotterdam giants secured the title with a 3-1 win at De Adelaarshorst, with goals from Calvin Stengs, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, and Bryan Linssen.

Feyenoord have been in excellent form all season, and their victory over Go Ahead Eagles was their ninth in a row in the league.

They will now be hoping to add to their trophy haul in the KNVB Cup final against Ajax on May 10.

Go Ahead Eagles, meanwhile, remain in 11th place in the Eredivisie, but they are now safe from relegation.

Match Highlights

Feyenoord took the lead in the 10th minute when Stengs fired home a right-footed shot from inside the area.

Jahanbakhsh doubled their advantage in the 35th minute with a header from close range, and Linssen sealed the victory in the 75th minute with a tap-in.

Go Ahead Eagles pulled a goal back in the 80th minute through inveterate Forward Oliver Edvardsen, but it was too little, too late.

Post-Match Reaction

"I am very proud of my team," said Feyenoord manager Arne Slot.

"We have worked hard all season, and we deserve to be champions."

"We have a great squad with a lot of quality," added Feyenoord captain Orkun Kökçü.

"We are all very happy to have won the title."

Go Ahead Eagles manager Kees van Wonderen was disappointed with his team's performance.

"We were not good enough today," he said.

"We made too many mistakes, and Feyenoord punished us."

"We need to learn from our mistakes and come back stronger next season."

What's Next?

Feyenoord will now turn their attention to the KNVB Cup final against Ajax on May 10.

They will be hoping to complete a domestic double and add to their 13 Eredivisie titles and 13 KNVB Cups.

Go Ahead Eagles, meanwhile, will be looking to finish the season strongly and secure a top-half finish in the Eredivisie.
